Projects-Direct.Net supported the Media Diversity Institute in setting their first project in sub-Saharan Africa.

We travelled out with MDI on the initial trip in order to work on the project set-up, in conjunction with the local partner, the Union of Journalists of South Sudan:

 During that trip

  • The partners discussed and adapted the project, and planned the implementation of activities.
  • The first 3 month workplan was created and sent to the European Commission Delegation in Khartoum.
  • The project management team was also designated.
  • Reporting procedures between partners were established.
  • A local mentor was selected to oversee and advise on local implementation of the project.
  • The partners met with the prospective editors and reporters of the South Sudan Mirror.

In addition, the MDI and UJOSS teams met with a number of organisations in order to introduce the project, explore possibilities for coordination with existing projects, and investigate opportunities for matching funding:

  • Joint Donors Team.
  • UK Embassy Representative.
  • GTZ – running a similar project via community radio stations and cooperation between the GTZ and MDI/UJOSS projects was agreed.
  • Juba Post Newspaper.
  • European Commission delegation – introduced project and team.
  • Dutch Embassy Representative.
  • Norwegian Church Aid.
  • UNDP – support ‘in kind’ agreed.
  • USAid.
  • Norwegian Peoples Aid.

Projects-Direct.Net also developed job descriptions for leading project team staff.
